In 1982 livestock and pets were found killed by an unknown predator in Truro, MA (a small town on Cape Cod) including a 175 pound hog maimed so badly it had to be put down. The mystery carnivore was approximately knee-heigh, with a long ropelike tail "like the letter J". After about a year, the unsolved animal deaths stopped. Experts believe this may have been a big cat accidentally released or left on Cape Cod by its owners (as mountain lions, lynx, and ocelot were legal to own and buy in the 1980s).
